This sweet treat is a family favorite at Christmas, but with the crisp citrus notes, it is satisfying all year long.
Juice the orange and grate the rind. You will need about ½ cup of juice.
In the mixer, combine the butter/shortening, orange juice and zest, sugar, eggs, milk/sour cream, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well.
Add the flour a little at a time and beat until smooth.
Preheat oven to 350℉ and grease your cookie sheets.
Drop the dough on the sheets with a tablespoon. Bake at 350℉ for 10-12 minutes until edges are brown.
*Optional* In a second bowl, combine confectioners sugar, ½ cup butter(softened), milk, vanilla, and orange zest.
Mix until smooth adding orange juice until desired consistency is reached.
Frost the cookies while still warm.
